JFK and failure in light of prudent action for right policy

    Jfk

"To state the facts frankly is not to despair the future nor indict the past.  The prudent heir takes careful inventory of his legacies and gives a faithful accounting to those whom he owes an obligation of trust…We do have no greater asset than the willingness of a free and determined people, through its elected officials, to face all problems frankly.”

    - John F. Kennedy.
    1961 State of the Union

Just months after being elected, days after being inagguraged, he gave this quote.  Right before the election, he called MLK's wife and asked if he could be of assistance as her husband was in a Georgia jail.  It nearly cost him the election, but he was willing to do the unpopular, for the sake of the future.

There is much value to one's country and society in a man willing to do the unpopular in exchange for an assured detriment.

    - B. Wilson Hines, Jr.
